Job summary

SunCoast Blood Centers in Bradenton, FL seeks an experienced Senior Laboratory Operations Supervisor to manage blood component processing, labeling, storage, and distribution. You will oversee staff, ensure SOP and regulatory compliance, and drive quality and efficiency in daily operations.

The role requires 3–5 years in blood banking or regulated manufacturing, with supervisory experience and strong attention to detail.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree preferred.
  • 3–5 years in blood banking, lab operations, or regulated manufacturing.
  • Experience leading staff, training, and audits is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day supervision, guidance, and support to component technicians.
  • Ensure adherence to SOPs, regulatory standards, and quality requirements; support audits.
  • Coordinate daily lab workflow to ensure efficient processing and timely throughput.
  • Monitor inventory levels of blood products and supplies; manage storage and rotation.
  • Lead process improvement initiatives and provide operational leadership in leadership absence.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, inspection-ready laboratory environment and enforce safety protocols.

It is not intended to bean exhaustive list and may be revised at any time to reflect organizational needs.Staff Supervision and Team Support• Provide day-to-day supervision, guidance, and support to component technicians• Assist with staff scheduling, coverage, and daily work assignments• Support onboarding, training, and competency development of team members• Reinforce performance expectations, policies, and proceduresQuality and Compliance• Ensure strict adherence to SOPs, regulatory requirements, and quality standards• Perform or oversee quality control, maintenance, and lot release activities• Identify, document, and escalate discrepancies, deviations, or non-conformances• Support internal and external audits and inspectionsWorkflow Coordination and Operational Support• Coordinate daily laboratory workflow to ensure efficiency and timely processing• Troubleshoot operational, equipment, and documentation issues• Support courier coordination and product logistics as neededInventory and Supply Management• Monitor inventory levels of blood products, reagents, and supplies• Ensure proper handling, storage, and rotation of products and materials• Assist with ordering and tracking supplies to maintain uninterrupted operationsProcess Improvement and Leadership Support• Identify workflow inefficiencies and support process improvement initiatives• Partner with leadership to enhance operational performance and quality outcomes• Provide coverage and operational support in the absence of leadership as neededLaboratory Environment and Safety• Maintain a clean, organized, and inspection-ready laboratory environment• Ensure compliance with safety, infection control, and environmental protocolsMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSEducation • High school diploma or equivalent required • Associate degree in a scientific or healthcare-related field preferredExperience • Minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of experience in blood banking, laboratory operations, or regulated manufacturing required • Demonstrated experience in blood component processing and handling required • Prior experience in a lead, trainer, or supervisory capacity preferred • Experience supporting audits, inspections, or regulatory environments preferredKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES• Strong knowledge of blood component manufacturing processes, including processing, labeling, storage, and distribution • Working knowledge of regulatory standards (FDA, AABB, OSHA) and internal SOPs • Ability to troubleshoot workflow, equipment, and process issues in real time • Strong attention to detail with a focus on accuracy, quality, and compliance • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage changing production demands • Effective communication and interpersonal skills • Proficiency in laboratory systems, documentation practices, and inventory tracking • Ability to lead by example while working both independently and collaboratively
