Job summary

Axle Energy seeks a highly ambitious Bioinformatics Scientist to join NIH/NIAID DIR RTB IDSS in Bethesda, MD. You will design and execute bioinformatics analyses for high-throughput genome-scale data, develop workflows, and contribute to publications.

The role requires expertise in NGS analyses, statistical modeling, scripting, and cloud/on-prem pipelines. Collaboration with researchers and cross-functional teams is essential; open, detail-oriented, and security-conscious candidate preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field; Master’s or Ph.D. preferred.
  • 4+ years of experience in bioinformatics.
  • 2+ years of experience developing and maintaining production bioinformatics pipelines.
  • Expert in two of the languages: Python, R, C/C++, sh/bash.
  • Experience building Docker/Podman/Singularity on HPC.
  • Expert in a pipeline framework: Snakemake, Nextflow, CWL/WDL.
  • Experience building pipelines locally on-premise and in the Cloud (AWS/GCP/Azure).
  • Experience with frameworks such as Django, Flask, RShiny, Electron, Flutter, React is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Address bioinformatics, scientific computing, and data analysis needs for DIR/NIAID collaborations with high-throughput genome-scale technologies.
  • Provide bioinformatics support including variant calling, gene expression analysis, de novo assembly, and comparative genomics.
  • Develop high-throughput pipelines and assist in dissemination of research data.
  • Perform computational data analysis on genomic and clinical research data.
  • Collaborate on scientific programming and experimental design; provide statistical support.
  • Co-author scientific publications and contribute to scalable resources for NGS bioinformatics and ML data support.
