Job summary

Axle is seeking a Data Scientist II to join the NIH/NCI CBIIIT project in Rockville, MD. You will support the full omics data lifecycle—bulk RNA-seq, scRNA-seq, spatial transcriptomics, proteomics—building reproducible pipelines and ensuring FAIR, containerized workflows across research programs.

You will collaborate with scientists, data engineers, software developers and government stakeholders to translate scientific needs into robust data models, dashboards, and reusable workflows for

Qualifications

  • Education & Background: Bachelor's degree or equivalent with emphasis on data science or biosciences.
  • Data Science and Bioinformatics Expertise: Python and R for analysis; multiple omics data types.
  • Analytical Skills: Statistical modeling, dimensionality reduction, clustering, pathway analysis.
  • Collaboration & Communication: Communicate across technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Domain Alignment: Interest in biomedical research; understands data governance and privacy.

Responsibilities

  • Bioinformatics Workflow and Data Pipeline Development for diverse biomedical data types.
  • Multi-Omics Analysis (RNA-seq, scRNA-seq, spatial transcriptomics, etc.).
  • Data Integration and Lifecycle Support: ingestion, curation, provenance, schema management.
  • Statistical Modeling and ML: regression, clustering, PCA, UMAP, classification.
  • Researcher-Facing Applications and Visualization: dashboards, notebooks, reports, APIs.
  • Collaboration: partner with scientists, developers, and government stakeholders to translate needs into technical specs.
