Job summary

The Yang Lab at the University of Richmond is seeking a full-time post-baccalaureate research assistant for a two-year NSF-funded position beginning August 1, 2026. The lab uses computational methods to study evolutionary genomics with a focus on human genomic prehistory and adaptations.

The successful candidate will develop and apply bioinformatic pipelines in high-performance computing environments, collaborate on publications, and mentor undergraduate students while pursuing independent

Qualifications

• Required: Bachelor’s degree in biology or related field.
• Experience with Python and/or Linux environments.
• Effective written communication skills.
• Preferred: Interest in human evolutionary genomics and computational genomics.

Responsibilities

• Apply, develop, and improve computational pipelines for evolutionary genomics in HPC environments.
• Develop, test, and edit protocols and websites used for Yang Lab research and teaching.
• Mentor undergraduate students and assist with outreach activities.
• Maintain accurate records of analyses and code using a lab notebook and version-controlled workflows.
