Job summary

The University of Virginia’s College and Graduate School of Arts & Sciences seeks a full-time Senior Laboratory Research Specialist to provide genomic and multi-omic technical support, training, and consultation across the Department and beyond as needed.

The role expands genomics beyond traditional DNA library prep to include single-cell and single-nucleus methods, epigenomics, spatial transcriptomics, and multi-omic sample prep for fee-for-service projects within the department.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; 5+ years relevant experience.
  • Ph.D. or MS preferred in molecular biology/genomics.
  • Experience with sequencing library prep and multi-omic methods.

Responsibilities

  • Consult with faculty on experimental design and feasibility.
  • Prepare sequencing libraries for bulk RNA-seq, DNA, and amplicons.
  • Train users and develop protocols and documentation.
  • Coordinate use of instrumentation and manage maintenance and costs.
  • Support molecular biology methods including cloning and qPCR.
