Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE) invites applications for a Forest Service Pacific Southwest Research Station fellowship in Hilo, Hawaii. The program partners with USDA Forest Service scientists to study biocontrol and invasive species impacts on island ecosystems.

Under a dedicated mentor, you will learn to rear insects, monitor populations, and identify species, with a 9‑month appointment starting October 2026.

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing or have completed an associate's, bachelor's or master's degree in a relevant field.
• Experience in Hawaiian forest ecosystems preferred.

Responsibilities

• Under mentor guidance, learn to rear insects and evaluate their effects on plants at various levels.
• Understand taxonomic principles necessary for insect identification.
• Participate in field and lab activities to support Hawaii’s forest ecosystem research.
