Job summary

The USDA Forest Service Pacific Southwest Research Station, Institute of Pacific Islands Forestry in Hawai‘i, offers a fellowship in Hilo, Hawaii to advance invasive-species detection for coconut rhinoceros beetles. You will gain hands-on experience developing and testing practical detection methods in green waste, mulch, compost, and nursery plants.

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing or have completed an Associate's degree in a relevant field.
• Experience in natural resources, biology, ecology, forestry, environmental science, or related field preferred.
• Familiarity with field tools and basic navigation equipment (GPS/GIS) is beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Develop and test practical methods for identifying invasive species in high-risk materials.
• Collect and organize field samples and support detection trials.
• Contribute to guidance documents, training materials, and stakeholder communications.
