Job summary

Washington University in St. Louis in St. Louis, MO, is seeking a Laboratory Technician to manage and document human biological samples within a biobank for downstream analyses.

The role involves sample intake, storage, QC, and data entry in a LIMS, with hands-on wet-lab work including pipetting and basic instrumentation. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) and comfort with Excel/LIMS.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or combination of education and/or experience may substitute for minimum education.
• No specific certification/professional license is required for this position.
• No specific work experience is required for this position.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel formulas and a clinical LIMS is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assists with research studies, experiments and assays, including collection of data, preparation of solutions and setup and maintenance of equipment.
• Sample intake from local and external clinics, sample data entry, sample storage (physical and LIMS), sample quality control techniques and instrumentation use, and extraction of tissues, cells, and/or molecules from samples.
• Diligent note-booking, use of Microsoft Excel, and use of the LIMS system to track and maintain sample status.
• Retrieves samples from the biobank and processes for downstream applications/analyses.
• Complies with established safety procedures and maintains required documentation on laboratory and specimen conditions.
• Attends scientific seminars as well as assists with scientific review and presentation.
