  • Book binding: saddle stitch or perfect bind and trim for packaging.
  • Die cutting: die cut the printed piece per specs.
  • Tabbing: place mail tabs on mail-related pieces.
  • Documentation: package final product and print required delivery information.
  • Willing to learn new systems and teach others.
  • Team-oriented with adherence to Liberty University policies.

Job description

The Bindery Specialist supports the operations department by performing various finishing tasks on print jobs, such as cutting, folding, binding, and packaging. They operate different machines with training, inspect materials for quality, and troubleshoot issues to prevent rework. Strong time management, communication, and independent judgment are essential for meeting deadlines and customer specifications. They help the department meet production goals by completing projects efficiently, while considering packaging needs and shipping durability.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Cutting: Confirm correct paper stock and cut to size per job specifications.
  • Creasing: Crease materials, if required, at specified positions in preparation for folding, die cutting, stitching, or delivery.
  • Folding: Fold and trim to final size per job specifications.
  • Book Binding: Saddle stitch or perfect bind and final trim and package finished product for storage or mailing per job requirements.
  • Die Cutting: Die cut the printed piece to appropriate job specifications.
  • Tabbing: Placing mail tabs on mail related pieces.
  • Documentation: Package final product, document, and print required delivery information per job specifications.
  • Willing to learn new systems and methods as they are available.
  • Willingness to teach new employees on our practices.
  • Other responsibilities as required as needed.
  • Strictly adheres to Liberty University policies, representing the University in an exemplary manner.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

QUALIFICATIONS AND CREDENTIALS Education and Experience
  • High School diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Commercial print bindery experience is helpful but not required.

Some mathematics/geometry skills needed for cutting or setting up machines.

Able to read a ruler and use fractions.

Regularly lift 70 or fewer pounds.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Work Environment

The working environment in which one will typically perform the essential functions of this position is a climate-controlled production setting.

It is well lit, and the noise level is high.

Ear protection is strongly recommended.

Driving Requirements

If the employee is required to travel in performing the duties and responsibilities of the position, the use of one’s personal vehicle (or LU vehicles) may be required for travel.

Proof of a valid driver’s license, an acceptable DMV record, LU Driving Approval, and liability insurance is required when driving in the performance of the employee’s position.

Pay Range

Compensation is determined based on factors such as qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, along with University needs and external market conditions. Market benchmarks may be used, as appropriate, in combination with internal equity to ensure pay is fair and aligned with the broader compensation structure. The position may also be eligible for comprehensive benefits, including health insurance, retirement plans, and tuition assistance.

$16.83 - $21.63
