Job summary

PD Instore is seeking a Bindery Technician in Minneapolis to maintain and operate bindery equipment, including cutters, folders, and related machines. You will oversee the production flow, adjust programs, and ensure quality output meeting client needs.

Ideal candidates have 1–3 years of bindery experience, a mechanical mindset, and the ability to read job jackets and imposition sheets. This role requires practical lifting and standing, with opportunities to travel among PD locations.

Qualifications

• Associate or trade school degree in graphic arts and/or printing and prepress technology is required.
• Minimum 1–3 years bindery experience.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to read technical instructions.

Responsibilities

• Examine job orders to define work direction.
• Enter cutting positions in proper order into computer memory.
• Load sheets on cutter bed and align for cutting.
• Operate cutter and initiate cutting sequences.
• Inspect cut material for defects and adjust program as needed.
• Remove material and stage for shipment or next operation.
• Record job information on tags and time sheets.
• Change knives and lubricate as recommended by specifications.
• Operate Stahl folder with continuous feed and apply tape as needed.
• Uphold safety policies and contribute to a productive team culture.

Summary

Bindery Technicians are responsible for maintaining and operating bindery and other related machines. Most work is done by machinery so bindery operators must be able to work with cutting, folding, banding, and tapping machines. Bindery technicians are responsible for the overall performance of the machinery to produce quality products that meet client needs.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities

• Examine job orders to define work direction
• Enter cutting positions in proper order into computer memory.
• Load sheets of printed or unprinted paper on the cutter bed. Jog and align sheets against the cutter guide in preparation for cutting.
• Activate computer to move sheets into first cut position. Activate double hand switches to begin cutting operation.
• Examine cut material for any imperfections and adjust computer program as needed.
• Remove material from the cutter bed and stack on pallets for shipment to the customer or next operation.
• Record job information on load tags and time sheets.
• Change knives and lubricate as recommended by manufacturers specifications.
• Run a Stahl folder with continuous feed and apply tape to material with a roller tape machine.

Education/Certification

• Associate or trade School degree in graphic arts and or printing and prepress technology.

Experience

• Minimum 1-3 years bindery experience

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

• Walking, sitting, bending, twisting, reaching, pushing, pulling and lifting may be required throughout the workday.
• Stand and walk 95% of the time.
• Extensive lifting and bending actions.
• Lifting to 75lbs.
