Job summary

McKenney’s is seeking a BIM Project Engineer to join our Atlanta team on a 9- to 12-month entry-level basis. The role exposes the employee to McKenney’s preconstruction processes, design, virtual construction, fabrication workflows, and field installation of mechanical systems.

The position offers training and a path toward Assistant PM, BIM PM, Engineer, or Sales Engineer roles. Collaboration with project managers, field foremen, and suppliers is essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in BIM Management, Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Construction Management.
• 1–2 years of project management experience overseeing technicians.
• Equivalent degree acceptable with 5+ years of plumbing, piping, or HVAC experience.
• PC proficiency: Windows, word processing, spreadsheets, e-mail, web-enabled apps, and databases.

Responsibilities

• Learn McKenney’s BIM processes, preconstruction, design and virtual construction, fabrication workflows, field installation, and startup/commissioning of systems.
• Coordinate with customers and other trades through the BIM process and assist with estimating projects.
• Interact with suppliers, vendors, and subcontractors and support project managers and field teams.

Overview

McKenney's Inc. is seeking a BIM Project Engineer to join our team in Atlanta, Georgia. This exciting role of Project Engineer is a 9-12-month entry‑level position designed to expose the employee to McKenney’s processes, capabilities, and scope of work before moving into an Assistant Project Manager, BIM Project Manager, Engineer, or Sales Engineer.

POSITION SUMMARY

As a Project Engineer, you will work in a team environment where you will participate and learn McKenney’s preconstruction processes, design and virtual construction, fabrication workflows, field installation of mechanical systems, and start‑up and commissioning of those systems.

Responsibilities

Learning objectives in this role include, but are not limited to, the detailing of mechanical systems (ductwork, mechanical piping, and plumbing), coordinating McKenney’s work with customers and other trades through the BIM process, estimating projects, interacting with our suppliers, vendors, and subcontractors, and working in the field as part of an installation crew. In addition to this training, we expect the Project Engineer to develop good relationships through regular interactions with project managers, field and shop foremen, virtual construction team members, field operations, engineers, suppliers, and other trade sub‑contractors.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in BIM Management, Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Construction Management.
• Will accept an equivalent business management degree with a focus in construction or engineering and 1‑2 years of project management experience overseeing technicians working with mechanical systems.
• If no degree, a minimum of 5+ years of internal experience working with plumbing, piping, or HVAC systems in the office or the field.
• Must have PC experience in Windows environments, working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets, e‑mail, Web‑enabled applications, and database software.

Preferred Qualifications

• Demonstrated successful experience in the construction industry.
• Two years of experience managing mechanical work
• Strong Business Acumen (entrepreneurship counts)
• Knowledge of Account Management (managing multiple customers)
• Leadership exposure (conferences, training, etc.)
• Experience with Autodesk Fabrication, Revit, and Navisworks

Working Conditions & Physical Effort

• Work will be performed in both a normal office environment and on active construction project sites.
