Job Title: BIM Modeler
Job Description
The BIM Modeler maintains project BIM models and associated support documents to ensure they meet defined project BIM requirements and internal BIM standards. This role covers the full lifecycle of BIM model management, from initial project set-up and error prevention to coordinating model outputs and supporting BIM coordination exercises. The BIM Modeler provides direct technical support to project teams, collaborates closely with the BIM Manager, and offers feedback on training needs, workflows, and content improvements.
Responsibilities
- Maintain one or more project BIM models and all related BIM support documentation in accordance with project BIM requirements and company BIM standards.
- Set up BIM models at the start of projects, ensuring proper configuration, structure, and adherence to established BIM workflows.
- Monitor BIM models regularly to ensure they remain free from errors and inconsistencies, and resolve issues promptly.
- Manage BIM model outputs, including views, sheets, and export files, to support design, coordination, and documentation needs.
- Perform BIM coordination exercises, including model federation workflows using Navisworks, to identify and help resolve design and coordination issues.
- Provide technical support directly to project teams on BIM concepts, tools, and workflows, helping them use models effectively.
- Clearly articulate advanced BIM and design concepts in a way that team members at all levels can understand.
- Teach and mentor team members to understand and use BIM concepts, Autodesk Revit, and related tools in their daily work.
- Apply solid knowledge of ANSI drafting standards in the creation and review of drawings and models.
- Incorporate design practices relating to the electrical field into BIM models when applicable.
- Collaborate with the BIM Manager by providing feedback on project team requirements for training, workflow improvements, and content development.
- Use Autodesk Revit, AutoCAD, and related CAD software to develop accurate 3D models and detailed drafting and design documentation.
- Support industrial and commercial projects by producing high-quality drafting, design, and 3D modeling deliverables.
- Communicate effectively with project stakeholders through clear verbal and written communication, ensuring attention to detail in all documentation.
- Work as a proactive team player, contributing to a positive, growth-oriented environment and demonstrating passion for BIM and design work.
Essential Skills
- Knowledge of and proven practical experience in Autodesk Revit, with at least 1 year of relevant experience using Revit.
- Experience with related CAD software, including AutoCAD, for drafting and design tasks.
- Experience in model federation workflows using Navisworks for BIM coordination.
- Solid understanding of core ANSI drafting standards and their application in drawings and models.
- Familiarity with design practices relating to the electrical field.
- Ability to clearly articulate advanced BIM and design concepts to team members at all levels.
- Ability to teach others to understand and use BIM concepts and tools effectively.
- Strong drafting and design skills, including 3D design for industrial and commercial projects.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with strong attention to detail.
- Demonstrated ability to provide technical support to project teams on BIM tools and workflows.
- Commitment to working as a collaborative team player with a passion for BIM, design, and professional growth.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Degree in computer-aided drafting or electrical engineering/technology is preferred but not required.
- Electrical design or field experience is preferred but not required.
- Experience in industrial and commercial project environments.
- Experience with drafting design and 3D design workflows.
- Strong interest in continuous learning and growth within a BIM-focused environment.
- Ability to adapt communication style to different audiences and levels of technical understanding.
Work Environment
This position is primarily office-based, with approximately 99% of the work focused on design activities at the office location in Gastonia. The role involves extensive use of Autodesk Revit, AutoCAD, Navisworks, and other CAD and BIM tools in a professional design and coordination setting. Occasional off-site meetings may occur but are rare. The environment emphasizes collaboration, technical excellence, and attention to detail
