Job summary

John Burns is seeking a BIM Project Manager to lead BIM coordination and delivery for multiple on-going projects in the Greater Chicago Area.

This role focuses on establishing practical BIM workflows, guiding modelers and trade partners, and ensuring models and drawings are accurate, coordinated, and useful in the field.

You will oversee model reviews, clash detection in Navisworks, and timely delivery of coordinated plans from coordination through closeout.

Qualifications

• Three or more years of BIM/VDC experience preferred, including leading project coordination.
• Experience reviewing models for accuracy, constructability, and deliverables.
• Ability to translate drawings into constructible models across disciplines.

Responsibilities

• Lead BIM planning and execution for assigned projects, including model setup, scope, deliverables, schedules, coordination processes, and BIM execution plans.
• Establish and maintain modeling standards, file organization, naming conventions, shared coordinates, quality checks, and document-control practices.
• Define modeling requirements and review models for accuracy, completeness, and constructability.
• Coordinate models with civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, equipment, and other project information, including survey data and field-verified conditions.
• Lead model reviews and coordination meetings; use Navisworks to identify clashes, track resolutions, and communicate decisions to project teams and trade partners.
• Oversee the timely delivery of coordinated plans, profiles, sections, details, schedules, installation drawings, and model information for field layout.
• Partner with project managers, engineers, surveyors, field supervisors, and trade partners to resolve constructability issues before installation.
• Support model-based quantity takeoffs, material planning, prefabrication, and construction layout where appropriate.
• Assign, prioritize, and verify model updates arising from design revisions, RFIs, field redlines, coordination decisions, and as-built conditions.
• Guide and review the work of BIM modelers, coordinators, and outside modeling partners as assigned; provide technical support and training to project teams.
• Identify opportunities to improve BIM tools and workflows based on project and field feedback.

John Burns is seeking a BIM Project Manager to lead BIM coordination and delivery for multiple on-going projects. This person will establish practical BIM workflows, guide modelers and trade partners, and ensure models and drawings are accurate, coordinated, and useful in the field. The role focuses on managing the BIM process and helping project teams use model information to plan and build the work.

Success in This Role:

The successful candidate will help project teams use reliable, coordinated models to make construction decisions. They will resolve conflicts early, equip field teams with useful installation information, and build consistent BIM practices that support project delivery from initial coordination through closeout.

We’re looking for you to do the following:

You Have:

• Strong understanding of Autodesk Revit models and the ability to review model content and deliverables, identify issues, and guide modeling teams.
• Experience leading BIM coordination or managing BIM deliverables on construction projects.
• Working knowledge of Navisworks for model review, clash detection, and issue resolution.
• Ability to interpret electrical, piping, civil, structural, mechanical, and equipment drawings and translate them into constructible models.
• Understanding of construction sequencing, system clearances, field layout, and installation requirements.
• Ability to organize priorities across projects, lead coordination discussions, and communicate clearly with office and field teams.
• Strong attention to model quality, documentation, and follow-through.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience developing BIM execution plans and establishing standards for project teams or trade partners.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and experience with Civil 3D surfaces, alignments, profiles, or utility workflows.
• Familiarity with Autodesk Construction Cloud, BIM 360, or similar collaboration platforms.
• Experience with Trimble FieldLink or similar construction-layout software and robotic total station workflows.
• Knowledge of survey control, shared coordinates, prefabrication, model-based takeoffs, and as-built documentation.
• Experience working for an electrical, civil, mechanical, utility, or industrial contractor.

Education and Experience:

• Associate or bachelor’s degree in BIM, construction management, engineering technology, surveying, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Three or more years of relevant BIM/VDC experience preferred, including experience leading project coordination or BIM deliverables.
• Relevant construction, fabrication, or field-layout experience will be considered.
