Job summary

NHC HomeCare Corporate is seeking a Billing Specialist - Insurance A/R Specialist to join our in-house team. This role operates 8am–5pm, Monday through Friday, and requires strong knowledge of third‑party billing and insurance guidelines.

The position emphasizes accurate claim processing, denial review, and patient balance explanations, with a focus on customer service and cross‑department collaboration.

Qualifications

• High school diploma; additional business courses desirable.
• 3+ years of third-party healthcare billing experience, preferably in home health care.
• Knowledge of Medicare and Third-Party Insurance Guidelines.
• Self-motivated; able to work with little supervision.
• Proficient in verbal and written communications with active listening.
• Strong organizational skills, work ethic, and attention to detail.
• Investigative personality to resolve issues efficiently.
• Excellent customer service and telephone etiquette.

Responsibilities

• Work outstanding Aged Accounts Reports.
• Maintain a file on accounts requiring follow up until resolved.
• Review denials and submit corrected claims and/or appeals.
• Assist patients in understanding balances after processing.
• Be a reliable resource for staff regarding insurance requirements.
• Communicate with homecare offices for claim follow up.
• Other duties as assigned from time to time.

Billing Specialist - Insurance A/R Specialist for NHC HomeCare Corporate

8am - 5pm Monday through Friday. This is an in office position.

Qualifications

• High school diploma. Additional business and computer courses desirable.
• 3+ years of third-party healthcare billing experience, preferable in home health care, including multiple carrier experience with EOB's and claims denials.
• Knowledge of Medicare and Third Party Insurance Guidelines
• Self-motivated. Able to work with little supervision.
• Proficient in verbal and written communications, including active listening skills.
• Strong organizational skills, work ethic, and high attention to detail.
• Investigative personality-ability to efficiently determine the problem and get to the bottom of an issue.
• Excellent Customer Service and telephone etiquette skills.

Performance Requirements

• Ability to speak, read, write, hear/comprehend in order to communicate adequately to carry out job duties and responsibilities.
• Mental acuity high enough to adequately perform job requirements and learn new skills.
• Ability to work cooperatively and harmoniously with a wide variety of people including insurance companies, patients, and and other NHC HomeCare staff.
• Must have predictable and consistent attendance.
