Job summary

Sangre de Cristo Hospice & Palliative Care is seeking a detail-oriented Billing Specialist to prepare, submit, and follow up on insurance claims for Home Health, Hospice, and Palliative Care services. Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Prepare, review, and submit electronic and paper claims accurately and on time.
• Verify HCPCS, CPT, and ICD-10 coding and ensure documentation supports billed services.
• Bill Medicare, Medicaid, commercial insurance, and other third-party payers.
• Monitor billing work queues, claim edits, and validation reports.
• Investigate and resolve denied, rejected, or underpaid claims.
• Follow up on outstanding accounts to maximize timely reimbursement.
• Collaborate with clinical and administrative teams to resolve documentation issues affecting billing.
• Maintain accurate billing records within the agency's EMR and billing systems.
• Stay current with CMS regulations, payer requirements, HIPAA standards, and industry best practices.
• Assist with month-end billing activities and provide cross-coverage as needed.
• Develop and maintain clear process documentation for billing procedures.
