Job summary

Rehrig International in Chicago is seeking a hands-on Manager, Billing Services to lead the billing team, ensure accurate invoices, and collaborate with attorneys and Finance leadership to optimize billing processes.

The role requires 5+ years in legal billing, strong Excel skills, and experience with e-billing platforms. You will drive continuous improvement, manage workflows, and mentor staff while ensuring compliance with client guidelines.

Qualifications

5+ years of legal billing experience within a law firm required.
Experience in an insurance defense practice strongly preferred.
Supervisory or people-management experience preferred.
Strong understanding of legal billing processes and client guidelines.
Experience with LEDES and e-billing platforms.
Advanced Excel skills (PivotTables, VLOOKUP).

Responsibilities

Lead and develop the billing team to deliver a collaborative, service-oriented environment.
Oversee preparation, review, and submission of client invoices for accuracy and timeliness.
Manage daily billing workflows, monitor workloads, and allocate resources to meet deadlines.
Serve as primary escalation point for billing questions from attorneys and clients.
Oversee e-billing submissions and monitor invoice status across platforms.
Research and resolve billing discrepancies and client inquiries.
Partner with attorneys and Finance leadership to support A/R efforts and collections.
Generate and analyze billing, WIP, and AR reports to inform decisions.
Support month-end billing activities and special projects.
Establish best practices, quality standards, and service levels across department.
Lead onboarding, training, and ongoing professional development for staff.
Participate in hiring, performance management, and succession planning.
Collaborate with Billing Operations for cross-training and workflow improvements.
Maintain knowledge of billing systems and tools; provide backup coverage.
Foster cross-department relationships to sustain client service excellence.
