General Summary

Responsible for determining and verifying insurance coverage and coordination of benefits for the assigned area. Ensures proper, adequate, and timely billing to facilitate prompt payment.

Responsibilities

• Confirm insurance coverage and determine the necessity for pre-authorization, obtaining approval for scheduled procedures.
• Determine financial responsibility for services, notifying patients and practitioners of any unapproved services.
• Communicate with patients and practitioners regarding financial and insurance issues.
• Maintain detailed documentation of all billing activities and claims processing in the patient account record.
• Prepare and submit claims to commercial insurance, third-party organizations, government agencies, or self-payers.
• Research, analyze, and reconcile Medicare/Medicaid billing and reimbursement practices.
• Review recent accounts for proper billing practices and reimbursement, resolving unbilled claims through consultation with relevant parties.
