Job summary

Central Minnesota Mental Health Center is seeking a Billing Specialist for our Waite Park office. The role submits Medicare/Medicaid/private claims, posts payments, and resolves denials to ensure timely reimbursements.

You will liaise with patients, providers, and payers, maintain EHR data, and help set up payment plans. Requires a HS diploma, DHS background clearance, and a valid driver’s license; an associate’s degree is preferred with 2+ years in healthcare billing.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years’ experience in healthcare billing, medical office operations, or behavioral health preferred.
  • Experience working with insurance claims, prior authorizations, or EHR systems preferred.
  • Office and Customer Service experience
  • Experience verifying insurance preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Submit claims to third party insurance carriers electronically or by hard copy.
  • Submit claims to self-pay clients and other payers.
  • Post payments and reconcile deposits; update client accounts.
  • Follow up on unpaid claims and appeal denied claims.
  • Verify insurance eligibility and benefits; obtain pre-authorizations.
  • Set up payment arrangements for clients.
  • Maintain accurate client demographics and insurance information in EHR.

How You Will Make An Impact

The Billing Specialist is responsible for submitting accurate insurance claims (Medicare, Medicaid, private), posting payments, and resolving denials to ensure timely reimbursement. They act as a liaison between patients, providers, and payers, updating patient records and setting up payment plans.

Claims Management
  • Prepare and submit claims to third party insurance carriers electronically or by hard copy.
  • Prepare and submit claims to self-pay clients and other payers.
Payment Posting & Reconciliation
  • Process payments from insurance companies and clients.
  • Reconcile deposit files and receipts and post payments to client accounts.
Receivables & Denials
  • Follow up on unpaid claims.
  • Analyze and appeal denied claims.
  • Research billing issues, correcting billing errors and resubmitting claims as needed.
Client Financial Services
  • Verify insurance eligibility and benefits.
  • Obtain pre-authorizations, if needed.
  • Set up payment arrangements for clients.
Data Management
  • Maintain accurate client demographic and insurance information in electronic health records (EHR).
  • Obtain documentation required for agency billing and collections.
Requirements
WHAT YOU WILL NEED
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • DHS Background Study Clearance
  • Valid Driver’s License and acceptable driving record.
What Will Set You Apart
  • Associate’s degree in healthcare administration, business, accounting, or related field preferred.
  • 2 or more years’ experience in healthcare billing, medical office operations, or behavioral health preferred.
