Job summary

Genesee & Wyoming Inc. is seeking a qualified finance professional to supervise capital accounting, grant accounting and project billing within the finance team. The role focuses on accuracy, controls, and timely reporting across projects and entities.

The ideal candidate will have 7–10 years of experience in public-company accounting, a Bachelor’s in accounting, and preferably a CPA or MBA. Employment requires relocation within 50 miles of the site; responsibilities include audits, process

Qualifications

  • Transportation industry experience, particularly railroad, preferred.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to deal effectively with all levels.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting; CPA or MBA preferred.
  • A minimum of seven to ten years of related experience; US public-company experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Execute and/or manage capital accounting functions including budgeting, forecasting, fixed asset transactions, account reconciliations, and adherence to internal controls and policies.
  • Support the company’s external reporting processes, including the annual audit and quarterly reviews of the consolidated financial statements and other requests for services performed by the company’s external auditors.
  • Continually assess effectiveness and efficiency of accounting operations, identifying and implementing opportunities for improvement as well as establishing and evaluating appropriate observable metrics.
  • Support the company’s mergers-and-acquisitions activities, including participating in due diligence activities and ensuring effective integration of accounting processes.
  • Support internal audit activities within sphere of influence
  • Train and assist staff
  • Manage other projects and perform other duties as assigned

Employment Requirements:
