Description
Position Purpose
Upholds the Credit Union’s mission of “We do the right thing one member, one employee, and one experience at a time to strengthen the communities we serve” by assisting members in person, through drive-ups, or by telephone. Provides a broad range of Credit Union information, processes transactions, requests, and concerns with enthusiasm, quality service, and sales orientation. Balances a cash drawer daily.
- Assists members in person, through drive-ups, and by telephone using an online teller terminal to process deposits, withdrawals, loan payments, transfers, check cashing, coin processing, and account information.
- Handles special member requests such as account research, stop payments, direct deposits, ACH, payroll deductions, wire transfers, and safe deposit boxes.
- Builds financial relationships with members through a consultative approach, discusses promotions, and makes referrals to Member Service Representatives, Mortgage Lenders, and Financial Solutions Representatives, including arranging appointments.
- Educates members about Home Banking, E-Services, and other products, promoting applicable Credit Union services tailored to members’ needs.
- Balances cash drawer and transactions daily, seeks recovery of errors, and communicates any errors to affected members.
- Opens and/or closes the branch following all procedures and policies.
- Performs miscellaneous duties such as mail transactions, night deposits, deposit verifications, filing, and account updates.
- Stays current on procedural and policy changes through reading bulletins, memos, and attending staff meetings.
- May assume additional responsibilities like safe deposit billing, vault balancing, ordering supplies, and coin shipments.
- Assists other departments or branches as needed and when available.
- May assist in training new employees and cross-train in Teller Supervisor functions and Member Services, providing backup as necessary.
Necessary Experience and Qualifications
- Ability to read, write, and understand detailed and technical instructions, memos, and correspondence. Basic math skills acquired through high school education.
- Ability to operate online computer terminals, coin processing machines, and adding machines, typically through a basic course or 1-3 months of experience.
- Knowledge of products, services, and procedures for transaction processing, gained through 3-6 months of on-the-job experience, including at least one with a Credit Union.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy, with the ability to focus for over 90% of work time and examine documentation closely.
- Analytical skills to research and resolve member issues and correct errors.
- Interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with diverse members and staff, particularly in high-stress situations. Ability to cross-sell Credit Union services.
- Fluency in both English and Spanish for bilingual teller roles.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements
- Office environment with moderate noise levels.
- Minimal lifting of up to 25 pounds.
- Frequent use of telephone, copier, computer, fax, and other office equipment.
- Prolonged sitting or standing.
- Requires frequent mental and visual concentration.
