Job description

Job Description: Teller

Upholds the Credit Union’s mission of ”We do the right thing one member, one employee, and one experience at a time to strengthen the communities we serve” by assisting members in person, through drive-ups, or by telephone, providing a broad range of Credit Union information. Receives and processes transactions, requests, and concerns with excellent service and sales orientation. Balances cash drawer and daily work.

• Assists members in person, through drive-ups, and by telephone by operating an on-line teller terminal to process transactions such as deposits, withdrawals, loan payments, transfers, check cashing, coin processing, and account information.

• Processes special member requests including account research, stop payments, direct deposit, ACH, payroll deduction, wire transfers, and safe deposit boxes.

• Focuses on building financial relationships with members using a consultative approach. Discusses promotions, makes member referrals, and arranges appointments with Member Service Representatives, Mortgage Lenders, and Financial Solutions Representatives.

• Educates members about Home Banking, E-Services, and other products. Promotes Credit Union products and services tailored to members’ needs.

• Balances cash drawer and transactions daily, seeks error recovery, and communicates errors to affected members.

• Opens and/or closes the branch following all procedures and policies.

• Performs miscellaneous duties such as mail transactions, night deposits, deposit verifications, filing, and account updates.

• Keeps updated on procedural and policy changes via bulletins, memos, and staff meetings.

• May handle additional branch duties like safe deposit billing, vault balancing, supply ordering, and coin shipments.

• May assist other departments or branches as needed and when available.

• May train new employees and cross-train in Teller Supervisor functions and Member Services, providing backup when necessary.

Qualifications and Skills
  • Ability to read, write, and comprehend detailed instructions, short correspondence, and memos; basic math skills acquired through high school education.
  • Ability to operate on-line terminals, coin processing machines, and adding machines with basic training or 1-3 months on-the-job experience.
  • Knowledge of products, services, and procedures for transaction processing, gained through 3-6 months of experience, including at least one with the Credit Union.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy, with the ability to focus over 90% of work time.
  • Analytical skills for researching and resolving member issues and correcting errors.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills for dealing with diverse members and staff, including cross-selling Credit Union services.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
  • Office setting with moderate noise level.
  • Minimal lifting up to 25 pounds.
  • Frequent use of office equipment such as phones, copiers, and computers.
  • Prolonged sitting or standing, with high mental and visual concentration.
