Job summary

The Long Branch Free Public Library seeks a teen services assistant for a 6-month assignment in the Teen Department. You will plan and deliver diverse teen programs, assist with readers’ advisory, and support activities across the department.

Schedule: Mon–Tue 4pm–8pm, Wed–Thu 4pm–7pm, Sat 12pm–5pm; bilingual (English/Spanish or Portuguese) a plus; salary is $19.19/hour. Civil service position at 328 Broadway, Long Branch, NJ.

Qualifications

• Ability to converse clearly and courteously with patrons and staff.
• Must have strong customer service and computer skills.
• Strong organizational ability.
• Ability to comprehend, analyze, and interpret policies and procedures of the library.
• Knowledge of young adult books and various authors; background in literature helpful.

Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver a full range of teen programs and services.
• Provide readers’ advisory and knowledge of holdings to patrons.
• Check shelves for proper organization of materials.
• Instruct patrons on using the catalog and online resources.
• Explain library policy to the public and other libraries as needed.
• Attend staff meetings and periodic training.
• Participate in additional responsibilities from Family Services Manager or Director.
