Position Objective
To assist clients with career counseling and decision making. Provide clients with the tools needed to obtain and maintain long term employment, and ultimately positive, healthy living. Provide both Pre-Employment and Post Employment support, to prevent relapse and recidivism.
Essential Functions
- Contact all referrals generated by Outreach Specialist and complete the intake appointment within 1-2 days of initial referral.
- Intake meetings include an assessment, review of program services, collection of client demographics, identifying employment goals and barriers, and creating a client profile in Credible.
- VCM will have a goal for intake completions each month based on program performance milestones.
- Conduct weekly employment workshops.
- Assist clients with identifying viable employment options and addressing any employment barriers.
- Update or create new resumes for each client within 5 days of program enrollment. Save electronic copies to system.
- Email resumes to clients upon completion of final updates. Ensure clients are given paper copies and can clearly discuss their resumes with employers.
- Ensure each client is able to clearly articulate their skill set, answer basic interview questions, and complete job applications.
- VCM's goal is an 80% completion rate for workshops.
- Maintain detailed progress notes documenting all client interactions and outreach attempts within 24 hours of the interaction.
- All clients are expected to receive weekly contact, documented in case notes, until they become employed.
- Schedule and provide 1:1 service to a case load of clients including: resume development, developing and practicing interview skills, ensuring clients can effectively articulate their skill set and professional experience, addressing barriers to hiring and continued employment, assisting clients to attain appropriate interview clothing.
- Coordinate with other WDI team members in various capacities including active participation in weekly meetings to discuss client progress, assist Job Developers and Retention Specialist to communicate with clients as needed.
- Assist CPRA with developing community-based resources. This can include clothing referrals, low-income housing, access to cell phones, food stamps, etc.
- Maintain positive rapport with referring counselors. Assist Outreach Coordinator as needed with outreach by identifying new referral sources and attending presentations or vendor fairs to conduct immediate intake assessments.
- Assist with preparing clients for interviews. This includes clothing, metro cards, travel directions, copies of resumes. Clients should review soundbites and answers to interview questions.
- Attend and participate in meetings, staff development sessions and in-service training as assigned.
- Maintain and execute documentation and workflow through computer-based programs and technology that draws on basic software/computer skill set.
- May be assigned other tasks and duties reasonably related to their job responsibilities. Performs other duties as assigned.
Educational Requirements
- High School Diploma required with at least 1 years related work experience in employment services.
Skills And/or Experience Required
- Working in an automated on-line system, demonstrates proficiency in use of applied information technology and on-line database systems; demonstrated keyboarding speed proficiency and accuracy preferred for a paperless case management system.
- Some prior professional experience working within a community-based organization or the government sector, directly serving an under-resourced population required.
- Experience working in employment services or in social service-related field preferred.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule and to travel to various locations to carry out assigned duties.
- Effective problem solving and interpersonal skills.
- Bilingual in Spanish required.
- Basic computer software literacy and computer usage experience.
Salary: $53,000-$58,000 plus $3,000 sign-on bonus
