Job summary

State of Maryland's Workers' Compensation Commission seeks a skilled interpreter to provide Spanish interpretation during hearings and translate related documents. You will work with claimants, attorneys, and hearing officers to ensure accurate communication in English and Spanish.

The role requires a minimum of three years’ formal interpretation/translation experience, adherence to ethical standards, and the ability to handle sensitive legal matters with neutrality.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
• Three years of experience providing formal interpretation and translation between English and Spanish.
• Formal interpretation services may include work as a volunteer interpreter for nonprofits, human services, or faith-based organizations.

Responsibilities

• Provide verbal Spanish interpretation in hearings using consecutive and simultaneous modes.
• Translate workers' compensation documents from Spanish to English.
• Assist IPO with rescheduling interpreter schedules and coordinating availability.
• Maintain accuracy, neutrality, and confidentiality in sensitive legal matters.
• Respond to phone and email inquiries regarding hearings and related services.
