Job summary

The Salvation Army in New York, NY is seeking a kitchen assistant to prepare and cook large volumes of food for Soup Kitchen participants. You will maintain an orderly kitchen, manage inventory, and supervise volunteers to ensure smooth service.

Responsibilities include scheduling, training, and safe food handling. The role runs Monday through Friday, 9:00 am to 2:00 pm, with occasional additional time as requested.

Qualifications

• Food Protection Certificate update required.
• High school diploma or equivalent is a plus.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• At least 1 year in a food prep/service role with knowledge of safe handling.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and cook a large volume of food for Soup Kitchen participants.
• Maintain an orderly kitchen including cleaning, inventory, stock and records.
• Provide contact, scheduling and supervision of volunteers for food services.
• Work with diverse people and maintain a pleasant, compassionate service.
• Schedule: Monday–Friday 9:00 am to 2:00 pm; additional time as requested.
• Attend mandatory training courses throughout the year.
