Job summary

Tutor Me Education is seeking passionate tutors with special education experience to provide 1:1 in-home tutoring in Gardena, CA. As a Tutor, you ll deliver personalized literacy instruction to students with special needs, aligned to IEP goals, in students homes across Gardena, CA.

Responsibilities include developing foundational reading, handwriting, and written language skills, using multisensory methods and visual supports. Flexible, caring approach encouraged.

Qualifications

• Fluent in English and Spanish (required).
• Experience with students with Autism and IEPs.
• Strong foundation in literacy including phonics and sight words.
• Experience teaching handwriting and written language.
• Patience and the ability to provide consistent encouragement.
• Familiar with using visual supports, sentence starters, and graphic organizers.
• Experience with Speech Therapy, Occupational Therapy or Special Education services.

Responsibilities

• Provide individualized literacy instruction focusing on phonics, sight words, decoding CVCs, blending and segmenting.
• Support foundational reading through multisensory activities.
• Reinforce reading skills via guided practice in connected text.
• Assist handwriting development and fine motor skills.
• Use sentence starters and scaffolded writing to build independence.
• Monitor progress and adjust instruction as needed.
• Create structured, interactive lessons aligned to learning profiles.
• Incorporate hands-on activities and technology to boost participation.
• Engage student interests (e.g., Legos, Nintendo) to increase motivation.
• Maintain a supportive, patient learning environment.
