Job summary

Tutor Me Education is seeking tutors for in-home, one-on-one sessions in Los Angeles, CA. The role focuses on students with special needs, delivering tailored instruction based on IEP goals and daily-life support.

Ideal candidates are bilingual (English/Spanish), patient, and organized, with experience supporting students with intellectual or developmental disabilities. A credential is preferred, and sessions run 2 per week with 1 hour each.

Qualifications

• Active teaching credential preferred.
• Fluent in English and Spanish.
• Experience supporting college students or young adults with intellectual or developmental disabilities.
• Patient, organized, and encouraging, with the ability to explain concepts clearly and provide step-by-step instruction.
• Skilled in breaking down assignments into manageable tasks and using visual schedules, planners, checklists, and structured routines.
• Able to support the development of self-advocacy, time management, organization, coping strategies, and independent learning skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide individualized academic support in Business English, including understanding course materials, following instructions, completing assignments, and improving written and verbal communication skills.
• Break down complex assignments into smaller, manageable steps and provide repeated explanations and guided practice as needed.
• Assist with homework, assignment completion, and prioritization of coursework.
• Help the student develop organizational and time-management skills through planners, checklists, visual schedules, and structured routines.
• Conduct frequent check-ins to monitor understanding, progress, and assignment completion.
• Reinforce self-advocacy skills, including asking for clarification, requesting assistance, and communicating academic needs.
• Teach practical coping strategies to manage stress, maintain focus, and build confidence in academic settings.
• Encourage independence by gradually reinforcing positive routines and allowing opportunities for the student to complete tasks with less assistance.
• Incorporate real-life examples and the student's interests to make learning more engaging and meaningful.
• Communicate progress and relevant updates to the family or designated support team as appropriate.
