Job summary

La Causa, Inc. in Milwaukee is seeking a compassionate Assistant Teacher I to support daily care and learning for children in our Early Education and Care Center.

You’ll collaborate with the teaching team, families, and coordinators to foster a safe, educational classroom where children develop confidence, curiosity, and essential skills. This role requires one year of paid classroom experience and compliance with background checks; bilingual Spanish/English is strongly preferred.

Qualifications

• One year of paid experience with families or paid classroom experience.
• Infant/Toddler Credentials.
• Must complete 25 hours of in-service training annually.
• Bilingual in Spanish and English strongly preferred (required for bilingual positions).
• Must be able to lift children up to 50 pounds.
• Must be a minimum of 21 years of age.
• Background checks including TB testing and Physical required.

Responsibilities

• Back-up for other teaching positions as needed.
• Supervise and interact with children.
• Ensure a safe environment and follow daily routines.
• Follow Wisconsin Child Care Regulations and NAC standards.
• Prepare and submit required items by due dates (logs, notes, reports).
• Attend meetings and professional development.
• Establish and maintain communication with stakeholders.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
