Job summary

Mesquite ISD is seeking a Bilingual Pre-Kindergarten Assistant to support classroom instruction and daily activities. The paraprofessional will work under the principal and teacher, providing bilingual tutoring and classroom assistance.

Responsibilities include assisting in small groups, planning physical education, maintaining discipline, and helping with attendance and clerical tasks. This role requires a HS diploma and strong bilingual communication.

• Bilingual English/Spanish required to support students and families.

• Prepare classroom displays and materials; operate standard school equipment.
• Escort children to and from rooms; supervise students when the teacher is absent.
• Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.

PRIMARY PURPOSE:

• To assist the teacher in general daily classroom activities.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:

• High School Diploma/GED

SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:

• Exhibit effective working relationships with students, staff and school community.
• Ability to communicate effectively in both English and Spanish

EXPERIENCE:

• None

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

• Assist in small group pupil instruction and tutor students at teacher's request in either English or Spanish as needed.
• Plan and implement pre-kindergarten physical education instruction based on district provided curriculum.
• Help maintain discipline and other non-instructional functions.
• Record attendance information and related clerical functions with the teacher.
• Collaborate with the teacher to set up classroom and prepare materials for specialized instructional units.
• Assemble materials for bulletin boards and keep displays current.
• Operate standard school equipment such as laminator, copier, etc.
• Escort children to and from various rooms.
• Supervise students when teacher is temporarily absent
• Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Mental Demands:

• Reading and comprehending simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos; writing simple correspondence in English and Spanish. Present information in one-on-one and small group situations.
• Applying common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
• Occasional lifting and/or moving of up to 50 lbs.
• Standing, walking, talking, and hearing.
• Climbing, balancing, stooping kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
• Noise level is usually loud at a standard acceptable level for this
