Qualifications
- Proof of high school graduation or GED equivalent.
- Experience working with children preferred.
- Flexible and able to adjust your daily routine.
- Demonstrate effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrate a professional appearance and attitude.
- Physically able to lift, carry, push and pull up to 50 pounds.
- Must have one of the following:
- 48 hours of college credits, or
- Associate’s or higher degree, or
- Competency on the CFISD proficiency test (score of 70 or above).

Essential Functions
- Translate student and parent communications for the classroom teacher in assigned language.
- Assist students to communicate with campus staff.
- Assist teacher in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays.
- Assist with the administration and scoring of objective testing instruments or work assignments.
- Translate words, ideas and concepts between languages for teachers, students and parents.
- Help maintain a neat and orderly classroom.
- Help with inventory, care and maintenance of equipment, books and supplies.
- Help teacher keep administrative records and prepare required reports.
- Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
- Conduct instructional exercises assigned by the teacher; work with individual students or small groups.
- Help supervise students throughout the school day, inside and outside classroom (lunchroom, bus, playground duty).
- Keep teacher informed of special needs or problems of individual students.
- Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance.
- Participate in faculty meetings and special events as assigned.
- Regular and reliable attendance is an essential job function.
Working Conditions
- Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including computer and peripherals; standard instructional equipment; other specialized and adaptive equipment used by students.
- Posture: Frequent standing, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting.
- Motion: Frequent walking and reaching.
- Lifting: May require regular heavy lifting (45 pounds or more) and positioning of students with physical disabilities, controlling behavior through physical restraint, assist non-ambulatory students, and lift and move adaptive and other classroom equipment; may work prolonged or irregular hours.
- Environment: Work inside and outside (exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather), exposure to noise, exposure to biological hazards (bacteria, communicable diseases).
- Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions, maintain emotional control under stress.
