Community Academies of New Orleans (CANO) seeks a Bi-Lingual Paraprofessional to support teachers, prepare lessons, and guide English learners. The role emphasizes translation, classroom support, and student engagement under the teacher's supervision.

Candidates should have a High School Diploma (Bachelor's preferred) and EL paraprofessional experience. You will translate instructions, assist with parent conferences, track progress, and foster an equitable learning environment.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma required.
• Bachelor's degree preferred.
• Bi-Lingual proficiency.
• Two years of EL paraprofessional experience preferred.
• Knowledge of current special education topics and methodologies.
• Ability to handle volatile situations and take appropriate action.
• Growth mindset and willingness to learn and grow through coaching.

Responsibilities

• Translate teacher instructions into students' first language and translate student talk for the teacher.
• Interpret for parents during conferences, on the telephone, or at parent night.
• Translate letters and notes between teachers and parents.
• Assist in assessing needs, goals, functional levels, and motivation.
• Collaborate with parents and staff to track student progress.
• Monitor behavioral patterns and arrange interventions as needed.
• Assist with classroom crisis management and conflict resolution.
• Support EL students in achieving academic success.
• Adapt lessons for English learners and provide in-class support.
• Repeat or rephrase directions and check student understanding.
