Job summary

St. Jude Children's Research Hospital seeks an experienced Medical Interpreter to support both on-site and telephone communications in English and Spanish.

This role focuses on conveying essential medical information to providers, patients, and families, including informed consent and care instructions. The position requires 3 months (480 hours) of documented medical interpreting experience and candidates must obtain CCHI or NBCMI certification within 12 months of hire.

Qualifications

• Minimum education: High school diploma or GED; Bachelor's degree preferred.
• Minimum experience: 3 months or 480 hours of documented medical interpreting experience.
• Licensure/certification: None required by law.
• SJCRH-specific certification: CCHI or NBCMI within 12 months of hire.
• Special skills: asks clarifying questions, clear explanations, adapts to patients and clinicians.

Responsibilities

• Interpret critical medical information in Spanish and English for providers, patients, and caregivers, on-site and over the phone.
• Facilitate communication between providers and LEP/NEP patients and families during visits.
• Interpret telephone conferences between caregivers and providers.
• Coordinate with other interpreters and participate in on-call rotations.
• Assist with coordination and training of medical interpreters as needed.
• Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
