Job summary

Tufts Medicine is seeking a Medical Interpreter to provide accurate interpretation for patients and families with Limited English Proficiency (LEP) in a medical setting. You will interpret spoken language between English and the target language and may translate written documents as needed.

This role requires cultural mediation, collaboration with healthcare providers, and strict adherence to privacy regulations. A minimum interpreting background and bilingual proficiency are essential.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Medical Interpreter Certification from an accredited institution or equivalent training with competency exam.
• One year of interpreting experience.

Responsibilities

• Interprets spoken language between English and target language for patients, physicians and staff.
• Acts as culture broker to identify cultural misunderstandings.
• Translates written materials from English to target language and vice versa.
• Participates in family meetings to assist in forms, financial aid, and patient transfers.
• Maintains confidentiality and adheres to HIPAA/HITECH guidelines.
