Job summary

Mount Sinai Morningside is seeking a Medical Interpreter to facilitate communication between LEP patients and medical staff. The role requires fluency in English and Polish, and 1–3 years of interpretation experience in a hospital setting.

The interpreter may proofread or translate written documents and will support patients and families across the medical center, upholding accuracy and clarity in all communications.

Qualifications

• Associates degree from an accredited institution.
• Must be fluent in both English and target language.
• 1–3 years interpreting experience in a hospital setting.
• Preferred: bachelor’s degree and NBCMI/CCHI certification.

Responsibilities

• Conducts medical and general interpreting for staff, patients and families.
• Assesses and monitors patients’ understanding of information conveyed.
• Records and monitors interpretation activities according to hospital and department standards.
• Communicates clearly for both LEP patients and medical providers.
• Relays information accurately without omitting or altering content.
• Assists LEP patients and families throughout the medical center.
• May proofread, edit, or translate written documents.
• Performs other duties as required.
