Job summary

Advocate Health is seeking a Medical Interpreter to support our Language Services department. The role requires bilingual capabilities and certification progress toward CMI within one year, with full-time hours and a 40-hour work week in a 24/7 environment.

You will interpret for physicians, nurses and allied health staff across clinical settings, ensuring accuracy, confidentiality, and compassionate communication with patients and families. Training and on-call rotations are part of the job.

Qualifications

• Bilingual in English and another language with medical interpreting abilities.
• Proficient with medical terminology: anatomy, physiology, diagnostic process, treatment, prevention and health education.
• Ethics of medical interpreting as outlined by NCIHC.
• Ability to work in challenging situations involving delivering difficult messages.

Responsibilities

• Provides interpretation for patients, families and health care team in all clinical settings.
• Maintains confidentiality and professional distance.
• Collaborates with social services, behavioral health, financial counseling, chaplaincy.
• Documents work activity and charting interpretation in medical records.
• Assists with referrals, transportation issues, insurance/payment process, informed consents, site translations.
