Overview

The Medical Support Specialist (MSS) performs routine medical and testing procedures under direct supervision, supporting various facility operations including registration and referral management. This role demands efficient, accurate patient care in a fast-paced environment, ensuring quality clinical care and an excellent patient experience.

Responsibilities
  • Perform DOT and Non-DOT drug and alcohol testing
  • Prepare patients for examinations, including vital signs, vaccines, phlebotomy, PFTs, audiogram, and respirator fit testing
  • Perform rapid screening tests (influenza, strep, mono, glucose, etc.)
  • Assist providers during examinations and treatments
  • Perform routine procedures and triage emergent patients
  • Assist with procedures and injury care, apply bandages, dressings, splints
  • Dispense medications and DME per clinician orders and regulations
  • Maintain equipment, supplies, and cleanliness of the facility
  • Operate and calibrate medical devices, document accordingly
  • Manage patient flow and keep patients informed of wait times
  • Handle clerical tasks, ensure accurate documentation, and perform front office duties
  • Follow HIPAA and safety guidelines
  • Participate in staff meetings and training
Qualifications

Education: Vocational/Technical/Business School; Medical Assistant Certification or Military Medical Specialist credentials

  • At least six months of medical assistant experience
  • Knowledge of medical procedures and terminology
  • Understanding of occupational medicine requirements preferred

Skills: Service mentality, attention to detail, urgency, initiative, flexibility, decision-making, customer service, confidentiality, communication, teamwork, and proficiency in Microsoft Office. Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.
