Position Title:
Bilingual Medical Assistant
Program:
Child Services
General Responsibilities:

The Medical Assistant serves as the assistant to the assigned psychiatrists and Advanced Practitioner Registered Nurse (APRN). The role involves interacting with clients and handling both administrative and clinical duties related to client intakes and appointments, as directed by medical personnel.

Supervision:

Reports to the Medical Director or designee with supervision provided weekly through staff meetings and direct observation.

Responsibilities include:
  1. Answering phones, copying, faxing, scanning, and other administrative tasks.
  2. Handling correspondence and scheduling appointments.
  3. Providing excellent customer service with outstanding communication skills.
  4. Greeting clients with strong interpersonal skills.
  5. Updating medical records in the Electronic Health Record system.
  6. Arranging hospital and laboratory services.
  7. Assisting with applications to pharmaceutical companies’ Patient Assistance Programs.
  8. Providing backup coverage at front desks across multiple locations.
  9. Obtaining prior authorizations from insurance companies and verifying insurance forms.
  10. Providing translation services between English and Spanish as needed, supporting medical providers during appointments.
  11. Communicating with DCF, probation/parole, and Supportive Housing for client reports.
Clinical duties include:
  1. Measuring and documenting vital signs, medical history, and health information.
  2. Coordinating medication refills and obtaining prior authorizations.
  3. Assisting with appeals for prior authorization denials and other cases.

Qualifications:

Fluency in Spanish and English is required. Must interpret medical terminology effectively, be detail-oriented, and experienced with insurance processes. Knowledge of behavioral health and family systems is preferred. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and a valid driver’s license with reliable transportation are required.

Experience:

Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program is preferred. Customer service experience is required, along with essential computer skills.

Language Skills:

Ability to read and interpret safety and procedural documents, write routine reports, and communicate effectively in Spanish and English with groups and individuals.
