Job summary

Topeka Public Schools seeks a Dual Language Program Language Arts teacher to deliver instruction in Spanish and English. Classes are split 50/50 between native English and native Spanish speakers, focusing on bilingual development and academic achievement in both languages.

The teacher will maintain organized, student-centered classrooms, deliver standards-based lessons, assess and use data, and employ diverse instructional strategies aligned with current best practices and research.

Qualifications

• Fluent in Spanish and English as demonstrated through a district proficiency assessment.
• The minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university.
• A valid Kansas Teacher’s Certificate (endorsed as applicable).
• A credential file that meets Topeka Public Schools standards.
• Professional verification of classroom teaching performance or student teaching experience.
• Willingness and ability to meet ethical and professional standards by the State Board of Education.
• Regular and predictable attendance is essential.
• PREFERRED: ESOL Endorsement/Kansas

Responsibilities

• Plan and conduct language arts lessons in Spanish and English in age-appropriate ways.
• Adapt materials and methods to guide and challenge pupils.
• Implement the district curriculum effectively.
• Develop standards for critical analysis through group discussions.
• Evaluate pupil progress in language arts (listening, speaking, reading, writing).
• Coordinate with colleagues on school newspaper/yearbook projects and contests.
• Modify teaching to meet individual student needs.
• Communicate high expectations to all learners.
• Incorporate appropriate technology in instruction.
• Develop lesson plans with effective design.
• Use diverse, research-based instructional practices and resources.
• Model and facilitate higher-order thinking, problem solving, creativity, and flexibility.
• Routinely assess students and use data to inform instruction.
• Communicate expectations for student behavior and apply consequences.
• Maintain up-to-date records of student progress.
• Create a positive, inviting, and safe learning environment.
• Oversee classroom routines and procedures.
• Manage budgets as assigned.
• Support district educational mission and policies.
• Perform other tasks as assigned by administrator.
