Job summary

South Coast Community Services is seeking a bilingual interpreter/translator to facilitate communication between English- and Spanish-speaking families and staff. The role includes in-person interpretation at meetings in the community and family homes, and translation/editing of program documents.

Candidates must be highly organized, discreet, able to handle multiple projects, and comfortable working in a non-profit mental health service setting.

Qualifications

• AA or two years of college preferred.
• 1–2 years’ experience as an interpreter preferred.
• Valid CA driver’s license and proof of automobile insurance.
• CPR/First Aid/ProACT certification within 30 days of employment.
• Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
• Strong written and verbal communication; confidentiality required.
• Ability to travel up to 2 hours between locations.

Responsibilities

• Translate and interpret bi-directionally between English and Spanish for families and staff.
• Provide interpretation at community meetings and in family homes.
• Translate and edit business/program documents.
• Maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries.
• Support multiple projects and remote staff and offices.
• Follow directions from supervision and comply with HIPAA and regulations.
