Job summary

The UFW Foundation is seeking a Legal Assistant to support attorneys and DOJ accredited representatives in California. The role includes handling correspondence, file management, and supporting immigration relief efforts for low-income clients.

You will translate between Spanish and English, assist with intake and case work, and help with outreach at campuses or community events as needed. The position reports to lead staff attorney or senior accredited representative.

Responsibilities

  • Produce documents using computer hardware and software.
  • Read and route incoming legal mail; attach files to correspondence.
  • Compose routine and complex correspondence with mail merge and graphics.
  • Prepare outgoing mail, e-mails, and faxes.
  • Assist with coordination of special events.
  • Facilitate immigration applications (DACA, Citizenship, etc.).
  • Translate documents between Spanish and English.
  • Provide information to potential immigration applicants.
  • Follow up after intakes to evaluate eligibility for relief.
  • Coordinate on-site/off-site group processing workshops.
  • Develop and disseminate program materials.
  • Provide admin and legal support to Attorneys and DOJ Representatives.
  • Maintain client databases and case files.
  • Conduct initial intake for Immigration clients.
  • Answer and screen calls; arrange conferences.
  • Coordinate DOJ Accredited Representative or Attorney appointments.
  • Travel scheduling for legal team.
  • Organize file systems and meetings.
  • Greet visitors and coordinate meetings.
  • Coordinate volunteers and other duties as assigned.
