Job summary

Southland Holdings is hiring a Field Engineer in the Lake Charles area (LA/Vinton, LA; Beaumont, TX area). This entry-level to early-career position requires 1-3 years of heavy civil/general contractor experience and a construction/related degree.

Fluency in English and Spanish is required, with strong computer and analytical skills. The role supports submittals, permits, bid packages, change orders, and construction administration, with collaboration across owners, architects, and engineers on

Qualifications

• Construction/related degree with 1-3 years construction experience/ heavy civil general contractor experience.
• Transportation experience is highly preferred.
• Ability to speak English and Spanish is a REQUIREMENT.
• Excellent computer skills and analytical ability.
• Experience working with Primavera P6, AutoCAD. Understanding of industrial construction process.
• Must have ability to interpret contract specifications and drawings. Knowledge of contract procedures and principles.
• Ability to communicate effectively and work in a team environment.
• Ability to understand construction logic and sequencing of complex projects.

Responsibilities

• Receive, review, forward and track status of submittals.
• Assist in management of project permit process.
• Assist in preparation of bid packages and procurement.
• Receive and review change orders.
• Assist more senior civil engineers with entry level engineering tasks.
• Assist with performing onsite construction administration and construction observation services including reporting/monitoring contractor's compliance with contract documents.
• Evaluates change order requests including design changes, specifications and drawing releases and reports status.
• Evaluates submittals of shop drawings, material data and samples and takes appropriate action based upon contract specifications.
• Reviews and processes as-built drawings to ensure that all changes during the course of construction are recorded.
• Completes project close out requirements in accordance with contract documents.
• Coordinates meeting agendas, prepares minutes and follows up on action items.
• Maintains effective and professional relationships with owners, architects, engineers and contractors.
• Executes additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.
