Job summary

Sunnyside Community Services in New York, NY is seeking a Counselor for ESOL (Temporary) to help ESOL students access resources and improve attendance and retention. You will assess needs, connect clients to services, and work with instructors to support study habits and skills development.

The role requires bilingual ability (Spanish preferred), a social work-related degree, and 2–3 years of relevant experience.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in social work or related field and 2-3 years of experience.
Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred; strong interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and creatively.

Responsibilities

Connect with ESOL students and immigrant community members one-on-one to determine needs.
Manage caseload of at least 20 ESOL students a week with confidential contact.
Develop individual needs assessments to determine best path forward.
Refer participants to internal specialists or community partners.
Collaborate with instructors to improve study habits, social skills, and time management.
Coordinate workshops with AIS or partners to meet student needs and funder guidelines.
Perform other duties as required (testing, outreach, events).
