Job summary

Vail Systems Inc. is seeking a Software Engineer, Test & Infrastructure II to deepen automation and validate real-time signaling across web and telephony platforms. You will write automated tests, extend frameworks, and contribute to scalable QA infrastructure in a hybrid Deerfield/Chicago setting.

You’ll collaborate with developers, QA, and DevOps to ensure tests are integrated early in releases, while mentoring others and driving improvements in coverage and efficiency.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science/Engineering or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• 2–5 years in software development, test automation, or QA infrastructure engineering.
• Proficiency in one or more of Ruby, Java, C#/.NET, C++, Perl, Python, or JavaScript.
• Experience with automation frameworks such as JUnit, TestNG, PyTest, RSpec, Cucumber, or equivalent.
• CI/CD & containers experience with Jenkins, Docker, and basic Kubernetes workflows.
• Familiarity with distributed architectures, API testing, and network-level debugging.
• Exposure to telecom/ media signaling systems (SIP/SDP/RTP, WebRTC) preferred.
• Solid SQL and NoSQL database knowledge for data-driven testing.
• Analytical mindset and collaboration in Agile environments.

Responsibilities

• Design and extend automation frameworks using Python, Perl, Java, or Ruby to adapt to APIs and systems.
• Develop automation for complex functional, integration, and regression tests across microservices and telephony systems.
• Validate signaling flows (SIP, RTP, SDP, WebRTC) and API transactions under varying network conditions.
• Enhance CI/CD pipelines with automated test processes in Jenkins and containerized/Kubernetes environments.
• Collaborate with developers, QA, and DevOps to integrate tests early in releases and provide insights.
• Analyze failures with logs, packet captures, and dashboards to improve coverage and resiliency.
• Work with SQL/NoSQL databases to generate and validate test data and measure performance.
• Mentor junior engineers in automation practices, framework design, and debugging.
• Identify gaps in test coverage and propose solutions to raise QA maturity.
