Job summary

IDEA Public Schools in Tampa, FL seeks an English Language Learner paraprofessional to support bilingual students as they develop English proficiency. The role focuses on accommodations for learners at limited English proficiency and requires at least 30 college hours, with a pathway toward Special Education paraprofessional certification.

Compensation is hourly, with pay between $15.00 and $18.50, and earnings paid over a 12-month period.

Qualifications

• Requires HS Diploma or equivalency; Associate degree or 30 college hours preferred.
• Experience with children with cognitive and/or pervasive developmental disabilities preferred.
• Bilingual candidates or experience in dual-language settings preferred.
• Willingness to pursue, or currently enrolled in program for Special Education Paraprofessional Certification preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the educational and social development of students under the direction of teachers.
• Assist in implementing individualized communication assistance (ESOL/ELL) and translation services.
• Provide support for individual students inside and outside the classroom to enable participation.
• Work with professionals such as speech therapist, social worker, and PT/OT.
• Interpret school program needs to parents in home language.
• Help maintain student records.
• Support students with emotional or behavior concerns and develop social skills.
• Assist with daily activities like note-taking, reading comprehension, and grade tracking.
• Monitor student testing at some campuses.
