Job summary

Oldham County Board of Education at Oldham County High School seeks a Bilingual Instructional Assistant for the ELL program. You will support teachers, translate materials, and serve as interpreter at meetings to assist ELL students and families.

The position requires a high school diploma, 48 college credit hours or passing the Paraeducator Exam, and demonstrated fluency in a language other than English. Work day is 6.5 hours, with 185 contract days, according to the district salary schedule.

Qualifications

• Must have a high school diploma.
• 48 college credit hours or pass the Paraeducator Exam.
• Ability to work with children with some group experience.
• Demonstrated fluency and proficiency speaking and writing in a language other than English.

Responsibilities

• Works directly with the ELL program teachers and follows the instructional plan outlined through consultation with those teachers.
• Translates correspondence and documents to support ELL program students and families.
• Serves as interpreter/translator for PSP and other meetings as assigned by the ELL director and/or building administrator.
• Collaborates with ELL and classroom teachers concerning programs and materials to meet student needs.
• Complies with all Federal and State program guidelines.
• Prepares, organizes and provides resource classroom remediation activities to individual or small groups of students, reinforcing and implementing instruction as directed by the ELL teacher and/or with input from the classroom teacher.
• Maintains accurate records of student progress and work with students.
• Performs necessary medically-related services for students as delegated by the District Nurse.
• Assists in administration, scoring and recording of ELL assessments.
• Performs routine clerical duties such as preparing instructional materials, operating copy machines, and maintaining records.
