Position Summary

Hoyleton Youth and Family Services has a variety of internship opportunities that will allow students to gain practical work experience in the area of social human services, including counseling, mental health and non-profit management.

Description

Hoyleton Youth and Family Services offers internship positions in social human services such as counseling, mental health, and non-profit management, allowing students to gain professional experience.

Essential Functions And Responsibilities
  • Ensure all academic program requirements are met.
  • Serve as a clinical intern providing assessment, individual/group/family therapy services, and assist Spanish-speaking clients in developing functional skills.
  • Complete diagnostic assessments and develop integrated assessment and treatment plans with clients, parents/guardians, and case workers, following all regulations.
  • Provide crisis intervention services as needed.
  • Participate in clinical case staffing, scheduling to assure consistent communication with other professional staff.
  • Participate in weekly supervision to explore areas of strength and growth.
  • Complete all required clinical documentation in a timely manner based on Medicaid Rule 132 and Managed Care Organization requirements.
  • Participate in utilization reviews of clinical files.
  • Complete other duties as reasonably assigned.
Qualification Requirements
  • Ability to communicate effectively in written and oral forms of communication in both English and Spanish.
  • Ability to establish rapport with others to establish healthy therapeutic relationships.
  • Ability to present oneself in an appropriately personable and professional manner to clients and staff.
  • Ability to receive and utilize constructive feedback regarding performance, presentation, and relationships with others.
  • Must possess the knowledge, personal qualities, and practice skills to work effectively with professionals in other organizations, reflecting an understanding and appreciation of multiculturalism.

Education And/Or Experience
  • Currently enrolled in or a recent graduate of a bachelor’s or master’s program in social work, counseling, psychology, or related human services field (master’s level preferred).
  • Bilingual fluency in English and Spanish is required.
CARE & TCI

Hoyleton has adopted the CARE (Children and Residential Experience) program, developed by Cornell University, to guide our culture and practice. CARE is grounded in six core principles: developmentally focused, family involved, relationship based, ecologically oriented, competence centered, and trauma informed.

Completion of CARE and TCI training is an internal requirement for all staff and must be completed upon hire. Ongoing application of these principles is expected and essential to successful job performance.

TCI (Therapeutic Crisis Intervention). Employees Must
  • Pass the written test annually.
  • Pass the physical test every six months (if applicable to their role).

Consistent participation and application of both CARE and TCI principles drive company culture and are essential to job performance.

Working Conditions

This position operates in a professional office setting at the Fairview Heights headquarters, with occasional travel to other agency sites based on role responsibilities. The role involves periods of walking, standing, or sitting, and may occasionally require climbing stairs, bending, kneeling, or lifting materials up to 20 pounds, depending on job duties. Minimal exposure to environmental factors such as noise, dust, or varying indoor/outdoor temperatures may occur depending on program needs and client-related activities.
