DEPARTMENT:Senior Services Program – Benefit Assistance Program

SALARY RANGE:$42,000 – $45,000 annually (Based on Experience)

JOB SUMMARY: Under the supervision of the Benefit Assistance Director, the Benefit and Entitlement Caseworker provides direct support to clients seeking assistance with public benefits, entitlements, and related social services support to individuals and families participating in Grand Street Settlement (GSS) programs. The role involves assessing client needs, benefit counseling, assisting with applications and renewals (entitlement assistance), providing case management, and connecting clients to community resources. The Caseworker ensures clients understand their rights and responsibilities while advocating on their behalf to secure benefits efficiently and effectively. The Caseworker will recruit new clients, deliver program services, conduct outreach presentations, and engage in ongoing community outreach efforts to increase client participation and program impact.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILL REQUIREMENTS
  • Associate Degree required, Bachelor’s Degree (BA) preferred
  • Minimum of 1–2 years of experience in community or family support case management
  • Familiarity with public benefits and entitlement programs
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent listening, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities
  • Demonstrated empathy and interpersonal skills to build positive client relationships
  • Strong computer proficiency, including experience with databases and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, spreadsheets) and case management software
  • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple cases and meet deadlines.
  • Cultural competence and sensitivity to diverse populations.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of community resources and social services network.
  • Bilingual fluency in English and Spanish required
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Manage assigned contractual caseload and meet monthly deliverables for the NDA Healthy Families contract
  • Maintain accurate client records in required tracking systems, including intake, assessments, applications, referrals, and outcomes
  • Provide ongoing client support through comprehensive assessments, benefit screenings, service planning, implementation, evaluation, and follow-up (weekly and monthly)
  • Input client information and referrals into appropriate database systems in a timely manner
  • Educate clients on their rights and responsibilities related to benefits and entitlements.
  • Maintain accurate and timely case notes, client records, and program documentation.
  • Collaborate with internal staff, community partners, and government agencies to resolve client issues.
  • Monitor client progress, follow up on applications, and provide advocacy when delays or denials occur.
  • Provide referrals to supportive services such as housing, legal assistance, and workforce development programs.
  • Participate in staff meetings, training, and professional development to stay current with policy changes and best practices.
  • Uphold confidentiality and professional standards in all client interactions.
  • Meet program deliverables and targets, including providing benefit assistance connections annually
  • Serve as liaison with service provider partners (legal, financial, and tax services)
  • Conduct outreach including presentations, Zoom information sessions, tabling events, food pantry outreach, and community engagement events
  • Utilize internal and external resources to support clients and achieve program goals
  • Provide assistance with activities and special projects as assigned
