Job summary

J. Thomas Property Services is seeking a bilingual Building Engineer (English/Spanish) to maintain a portfolio of commercial properties across Prince George's and Montgomery Counties.

This roving role involves independent work between multiple sites, with a focus on troubleshooting and repairing HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and life-safety systems. Fluency in English and Spanish is required, and tenants’ facilities may include retail, office, and outpatient medical spaces.

Qualifications

• Bilingual fluency in English and Spanish required.
• 2+ years in commercial maintenance.
• Clean driving record – required.
• Smartphone proficiency for emails, work orders, navigation, and photo documentation.
• Available for on-call rotation (2 weeks on, then break)

Responsibilities

• HVAC: thermostat troubleshooting, component identification, vendor escalation when needed.
• Electrical: low/line voltage, bulb/driver replacement, safe de-energizing, LED upgrades.
• Plumbing: fixtures repair, drain traps, water fountains; no new plumbing installs.
• Life safety: familiarize with alarms, sprinklers, extinguishers, pumps; know triggers and isolation valves.
• Carpentry/maintenance: drywall repair, framing basics, power tool use.
• Work order systems: manage and log time/labor; prioritize queue.
