Job summary

The Arizona Humane Society is seeking a compassionate Bilingual Animal Assistance Specialist to join our Animal Assistance team at the Papago Park Campus. This full-time role runs Thursday through Monday, 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM, and focuses on humane pet care, intake support, surrender resources, and return-to-owner services.

You will engage with pets and people, educate the community about AHS resources, and collaborate with the Pet Resource Center to prevent surrender and enhance customer

A Day in the Life

The Bilingual Animal Assistance Specialist is responsible for providing an excellent experience for pets and people at every interaction. This role assists with the intake of owned and stray animals, provides surrender-prevention resources when possible, and supports end-of-life services when needed. This role also supports the Field Operations team when pets are referred for over-the-counter surrender, including large-scale intakes and sick or injured animals. In addition, this role provides return-to-owner services and assists pet owners in locating their lost pets. As a key AHS storyteller, the Bilingual Animal Assistance Specialist educates and inspires the community by sharing AHS's mission, values, and the resources available to help pets and the people who love them.

Job Requirements

• High school diploma / GED required.
• Bilingual English/Spanish required.
• Minimum of one year providing exemplary customer service.
• Must love working with pets and people.
• Provide an excellent experience every time to internal & external customers in a timely and courteous, professional manner.
• Upon check-in for an appointment, record the concern, perform a medical exam including TPR, obtain the current weight and vaccinate.
• Provide resources for rehoming during surrender appointments and at the front desk for walk-ins.
• Review animal profiles and determine if animals are suitable for adoption.
• Collect Animal Assistance fees and solicit donations.
• Tell our story! Act as a voice for AHS and relay our mission and vision during checkout out.
• Pull Admission reports daily i.e. Med Tech to Dispo list, animals without photos and bite reports, ID Check and RTO report.
• Answer incoming Admission calls and emails in a professional and compassionate tone.
• Assist with end-of-life and aftercare services including collecting fees, and offering paws of remembrance and paw prints.
• Keep a positive, empathetic tone when the outcome of a pet is not a positive one.
• Assist good Samaritans who found or lost a pet. This also includes assisting with the coordination of a return to owner and microchip clearing.
• Collaborate with the Pet Resource Center team on surrender prevention and customer experience efforts.

Physical Demands/Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. There will be exposure to dust, heat, cold and temperature changes; occasional wet floors, and animal noises, odors, and dander. Most time will be spent in a typical air-conditioned and heated office environment.
