Job summary

Big Nation Station is seeking a Temporary On-Demand Sales Clerk at $20/hour. Responsibilities include greeting customers, handling payments, and monitoring alcohol/tobacco and lottery rules. You will balance cash, assist with lotto, espresso, and other machines, and support a fast-paced store environment.

The position requires 2 years in sales or a customer service role, strong communication, reliability, and the ability to work nights and weekends. EOE; all qualified applicants considered.

Qualifications

• Two years of proven experience as a sales representative or in a similar sales or customer service role.
• Money handling experience and accuracy with cash/credit transactions.
• Familiarity with cash registers, lotto sales, and basic beverage equipment.

Responsibilities

• Greet customers and process sales, payments and tax-exempt transactions.
• Balance cash register and prepare deposits.
• Assist customers with alcohol, tobacco and lottery rules and online lotto.
• Call for help when lines grow; monitor pumps via intercom/TV.
• Identify suspicious behavior and respond to theft procedures.
• Handle customer complaints or escalate to management.
• Maintain safety signs, floors, and cleanliness of coffee/food areas.
• Stock supplies and operate registers and machines as needed.
• Flexible shifts including nights and weekends.
• Open to a range of office and field duties as needed.

TEMPORARY ON-DEMAND BIG NATION STATION SALES CLERK POSITION

- Hourly Rate:$20 per hour

MAJOR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Greets customers, monitors cash sales at gas pump visually (in-person or on TV monitor), scans items for sale, and collects payment. Works with and understands procedures related to cash, credit and debit cards, EBT, and tax-exempt situations.
• Cash management, including cash register balancing before and after shift and making deposits.
• Is familiar with and utilizes knowledge of acceptable forms of identification and rules for the sale of alcohol, tobacco and lottery items. Assists customers with online lotto sales and self-serve beverage making when needed.
• Calls for assistance when more than two people are in line and all gas pumps are busy. Identifies when help is needed at gas pumps by using intercoms or visual in-person or TV monitoring.
• Identifies suspicious customers handles according to established procedures. Is trained in and understands how to react in case of robbery or theft.
• Handles customer complaints when appropriate or elevates to manager level.
• Monitors dirty and wet floors, vacuums carpet, displays appropriate safety signs when necessary.
• Maintains coffee machines, hot food bar, and food counter areas.
• Stocks supplies and merchandise as necessary, including counting and stocking cigarettes.
• Works shifts as needed, including nights and weekends.
• Because of the MDC's commitment to community service and the well being of its members, each employee may be expected to perform a wide range of office and field duties from time to time. Such duties may or may not be related to their regular responsibilities.

Position Requirements

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING FOR POSITION (required and preferred)

Two (2) years of proven experience as a sales representative or in a similar sales or customer service role.

SPECIFIC SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES REQUIRED FOR POSITION

Money handling / counting, customer relations, strong communication, interpersonal relations, general cleaning skills, multi-tasking, working in a fast-paced environment. Must also be able to regularly use Regal touch screen cash registers, lotto machine, espresso machine, and calculator.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The working conditions described herein are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential duties of this class. The employee is frequently required to talk, hear, and operate a cash register. The employee is occasionally required to sit, stand, walk, climb, bend at the waist, twist, crouch, kneel, reach with hands and arms, and use hands to grasp, finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls, and use foot controls. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and push/pull up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works in outside weather conditions. The employee may occasionally be exposed to non-weather related hot and/or cold temperatures, wet and/or humid conditions, and atmospheric conditions such as fumes, dusts, odors, and gases. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, but can occasionally be loud.
